Birds on the Edge

Produced by ARCADE
In partnership with the North York Moors National Park Trust
and Scarborough Pupil Referral Service
Birds on the Edge, saw young people connect with nature through artist-led creative workshops, culminating in a celebratory private screening at The Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Young people were mentored by musicians, sound artists and filmmakers to write, record, film and edit their own pieces of work. All of the pieces responded to the plight of endangered regional bird species; the Turtle Dove, Yellowhammer, Redstart and Song Thrush. These persecuted birds thrive ‘on the edge’ of their different habitats. Working with the artist’s support and guidance the group wrote their own lyrics, performed their own material and designed and shot their own films.
The young people came together for the screening with family and friends, carers & social workers to celebrate their creative achievements. Watch the summary film below which explores the project in more detail.
