Coordinated by ARCADE
From Autumn 2020
Scarborough Creatives is a network for anyone who works creatively. We believe everyone is an artist and that they have the potential to develop their skills and collaborate with others.
The group is open to all artforms, artistic practices , abilities and levels of experience, whether you self-define as ‘professional’ or not.
Why does it exist?
Scarborough Borough is lacking a space for artists to talk, share, challenge and collaborate. We also recognise there aren’t always as many opportunities for professional development, training, funding or paid work here compared to cities and other regions around the country currently.
The network provides a community for people working creatively in professional or personal lives to gain skills and knowledge, meet potential collaborators and to share their own work.
Who is running it?
ARCADE & Stephen Joseph Theatre in collaboration with COAST (Scarborough’s Local Culture & Education Partnership) are initiating and setting up this group.
Ideally, the administration of this group would eventually sit with a freelance artist.
What does it do?
Representation: giving freelance artists and creatives working/living in Scarborough Borough a voice, ensuring their views are represented at COAST (and other strategic groups, for example the Council) by ARCADE
Connection: A network connecting people together, fostering collaboration and giving those who work alone a chance to create colleagues
Promotion: A directory of creatives able to be accessed by teachers, organisations or anyone seeking to include an artist in their work
Support: Helping people to expand their practice, or signposting to advice about funding
Employment: Promotion of opportunities within the sector
Training: Creating opportunities and funding bids to support training and CPD in areas of use to the group to take place locally or online for the group
Sessions will be free and take place via Zoom initially.
If there is something we can do to help you access the sessions, please talk to us aout your needs.
