"We want to set free the stories of girls who live along the North East coastline, encouraging them to write and present the tales that matter to them the most in 2020."

The Workshops

Pilot Theatre and ARCADE brought you Northern Girls, a project which saw a small group of young women from Scarborough develop short stories or monologues for a public performance. Each young writer received professional mentorship from playwright, theatre-maker and multi-slam winning spoken word artist, Hannah Davies.

The Performances

The new pieces of work were performed by professional actors in an outdoor performance space at the Scarborough YMCA on the 27th and 28th of October. These pieces were premiered alongside newly commissioned short plays by professional playwrights from Yorkshire and the North East.

SIGNAL FIRES

Northern Girls was one of the many campfire performances across the UK, as part of the Signal Fires project.

From spectacular bonfires to digital blazes; the nation’s leading touring theatre companies have presented a series of theatrical events at locations across the UK, in celebration of our fundamental need to tell stories.

ARCADE and Pilot Theatre lit the beacon in Scarborough with Northern Girls, as they brought the fireside to the seaside.
